A Glimpse of North York's History
The area now known as North York was originally settled by the Seneca people, a Native American tribe. In the late 1790s, the land was acquired by the British Crown and opened up for settlement. The first settlers were mostly of English and Scottish descent, and they began to farm the land.
In 1922, North York was incorporated as a township within York County. In 1967, it became a borough of Metropolitan Toronto, and in 1979, it was designated as one of the four boroughs that make up today’s city of Toronto.
North York has always been a vibrant and diverse community. Today, it is home to people from all over the world who have come to live, work, and raise their families in this great city.
With its rich history, diverse population, and abundance of things to see and do, North York is truly a unique and special place.
